Summertime GIVEAWAY!

GIVEAWAY CLOSED

Summer is such a perfect time to gather, don't you think?

Whether it's spreading out an old sheet for a picnic in the park, dinner under twinkly lights on your patio, a casual BBQ with all the fixings, or an outdoor movie in your backyard...these warm months make everyone want to live a little slower and enjoy moments more fully.

In honor of opening our door and inviting people in, I thought a giveaway full of fun hosting essentials would be a fantastic way to welcome summer.

Who says paper plates need to be boring?  These pretty floral plates will liven up your outdoor tablescape (even if you have a black thumb in the garden, like I do)!

Wondering what this cute little swan is? Leave it to Anthropologie to come up with the cutest bottle opener ever (PS I have it, too! With a maiden name like Swanstrom, I'm kind of a fan of swans).

Ahhhhh linen. I may not wear linen clothes often because hello, wrinkles! But there's something just so elegantly casual about using this beautiful fabric on the table (especially when it comes from Williams Sonoma). And this light mint color is neutral enough that it can be used all throughout the year!

Truth be told, I nearly kept this little salt grater. How cute would she be on the table (yes, it's a she)? I found it at Williams Sonoma the day I bought the tablecloth, but realized later you can find it for less on Amazon (yay Prime)!

What meal is complete without pretty napkins? I'm including not only cocktail napkins for drinks and appetizers but floral cloth napkins as well!

Are you in absolute LOVE with these metal rose gold napkin rings?! I sure am.

If ever there was a season for salad-eating, Summer would be it. These wooden salad tongs are a favorite in our kitchen!

Need some Entree salad recipes (and great summer dressings, apps, and an easy/yummy/beautiful make-ahead dessert? Click here!)

I know, I know...I had you at Kate Spade. These charms will definitely help you remember which drink is yours!

Are you a fan of place cards? I sure am. I love helping my guests get outside their comfort zone, sitting them next to people they don't know well (but folks I know they would love!).

My favorite part is seeing guests sit down uncomfortably at the beginning of dinner and exchange phone numbers and hugs with their new bestie by the end of the night!

I just had to include this little bag of coffee by Two Rivers Coffee because, well...doesn't an iced coffee just sound so good right about now? I bet your guests would agree!

I use these paper bowls all the time. From ice cream to popcorn to watermelon wedges and frozen berries, they're the perfect way to add color to the table without having to wash a single dish! And the wooden spoons just remind me so much of buying ice cream from the ice cream truck when I was little. So nostalgic.

Speaking of paper, if you've ever been to a party at my home, you've probably sipped a cool beverage through a cheerfully colored paper straw. I'm more than a little obsessed with them.

What do you think? Good stuff? Entertaining essentials you'd LOVE to use at your own little dinner or brunch?

Which are you most excited about??

You ready to talk rules??

Using unconventional colors + patterns on your Thanksgiving table.

I'm so excited to share how some friends and I have teamed up with the most incredible organization to decorate our Thanksgiving tables!

Need some last minute inspiration? After scrolling through my ideas, click over to the blog of one of my dearest friends in the world, Amy Kavelaris (author of Bloom with Mi) and new friend Molly (stillbeingmolly.com)!

Bought Beautifully is an ethical marketplace (home + fashion) that searches the globe to find ministries, organizations, artists, entrepreneurs and individuals who are living our God's call to love...and links arms with them!

Beautiful products that are making an impact? Big yes...I'm a huge fan.

I absolutely love repurposing things and thinking outside the box when decorating. I'm also a BIG fan of shopping my house so I don't have to spend any money! This year, I decided to go with lots of layers and texture, leaving my traditional tablecloths in the drawer.

Grabbing these pretty lace window panels from Ikea (that I still haven't put up in the girls room yet!), I draped the curtain onto the table first. It's shorter than the table itself, so I just left a few inches bare at the head and foot of the table.

My little helper assisted in running through the house finding colorful throw blankets that are usually on couches and chairs. We just kinda tossed them on, fixed the fringe...and moved on! It's not supposed to be perfect!

Imperfection is so much prettier.

It had just started snowing when Elsabet and I worked on the table so we rushed outside and brought in our pumpkins from the front yard. You shoulda seen her try and lift them...the cutest, haha.

After wiping the melting snow from them, we grabbed the basket full of corn the kids brought home after going to a Corn Maze with my folks when they were in town.

When grouping things, remember to do it in an odd number (it's more visually appealing).

I would have loved to use fresh flowers...but let's be honest. It was snowing. I didn't want to go out to the store!

Thankfully, there are so many pretty faux flower options these days. Mine are from Hobby Lobby, Michaels, and Joann's. I snagged these from my office, bedroom, and basement. Some already had the stems cut short, and those that didn't...I just hid well behind the corn and pumpkins.

You'll notice our plates, silverware, and even napkins are all mismatched.

I adore when things coordinate without looking matchey-matchey. Pick a few colors and use whatever you want in those hues! I used different tones of yellows, oranges, reds, and pinks ...mixing in a tiny bit of blue.

Goodwill is the best place if you want to start a mismatched collection of things without breaking the bank. If your glassware is all clear, go for different styles! If your plates are white and are of similar size, but have bands of various patterns around the edges...they are perfect!

Use what you have! Be creative!

Shop your house!

How absolutely gorgeous are these yellow hand-dyed napkins made in Haiti (you can also find them in gray over at Bought Beautifully).

If you're having a large group over and don't have enough napkins that match, as long as they rest within the color group you've chosen, use them! I even have a (new-ish) dishtowel or two folded up on our table.

Did you see my post last week with printable thankful tags?

In it, I featured the most spectacular olive wood bowl with coral trim. I mean, I just love it so much I can hardly even handle it.

In last week's post, I used the bowl to hold my Thankful Tags, but gosh...it'd be perfect for holding rolls or when not hosting something, it'd be perfect to hold a few pillar candles or grouping of collectibles.

Click here to see it in other colors!

What do you think? Would you use a curtain and throw blankets on your Thanksgiving table? What could you use around your home so you don't need to spend a cent on making a table gorgeous?!

May the Lord bless you this Thanksgiving!

Happy (almost) Turkey Day!

Take Joy,

Teresa

GIVEAWAY | my favorite things

In the past, on my birthday I did things like this.

This year though, in honor of my birthday... I thought it'd do a fun GIVEAWAY of a bunch of my favorite things!

birthday giveaway 3

Let me walk you through all the items real quick, before you scroll down for the rules.

Oh! And if you add everything up, it retails at over $300.

I know...you totally want to win, right?

birthday giveaway 2

I absolutely love throwing parties and having people over, so much of this collection highlights that.

I also adore a mishmash of vintage items on the table. So here are, four gorgeous vintage forks to get your collection started (from my favorite shop here in Denver)!

birthday giveaway 4

I'm over the moon about tassels from GlamFete and because they know how much I love them, they're gifting a string of them for our giveaway!

Ours typically hang above our bed (see here), but admittedly I move them around the house a bit.

birthdaygiveaway1

Love Does. Sigh. I just absolutely and completely love this book.

I've bought it and re-bought it for friends and family and if you've read it, stick it in your purse to give to someone. Everyone should read it.

Love can do so much. Change so much. Just the simple act of saying "yes, I'll do it", can change your life and many of those around you!

I sound like an infomercial. But truly. Just read it. Head to Amazon now.

birthday giveaway 6

I have met some of the most incredible world-changing ladies through the past several years.

I bought these colorfulful mixed metal bracelets from Beautiful and Beloved awhile back and love pairing them with Stella & Dot pieces I already own. My sweet friend Amber, founded of this shop and nonprofit with the purpose of empowering survivors of slavery and was willing to gift one of you a set of your own!

Head over to her shop to learn more and how you too, can help empower the marginalized and formally enslaved!

birthday giveaway5

I love having fun treats for the kids when they come home from school each afternoon.

These ice cream cups are perfect for just that...ice cream (obvi)...but are also ideal for hummus and carrots! Or a bunch of berries, apple slices with almond butter...or perhaps guacamole with a few tortilla chips!

If you don't have kids (or they're not school-aged), you totally need to invite some girls over. Because let's be honest...don't we all love gold + white right now? And now cute are the little wooden "spoons"?!

birthday giveaway 7

I mentioned a few weeks ago in this post how life-changing Beautycounter's products have been for me.

My illness last summer (that lasted for months and months) caused me to really begin to research living more of a healthy, clean life and Beautycounter's mission lines up so perfectly with where I am now in caring for myself and our family.

The above photo is of the canvas bag that I adore and keep all my makeup in. But moreso, I love the encouragement printed on it. Don't you want to be someone who "leads the change" in life? I sure do.

birthday giveaway 13

This Rose Water Uplifting Spray is amaaaazing and both smells and feels so luxurious.

I use it every morning to set my makeup and again in the afternoon as a little "rev-up" for my skin!

birthday giveaway 8

Whitney over at Beaded by W sent me this beautiful tassel necklace last summer and I basically haven't taken it off. The mixture of white wooded beads and gold glass ones...combined with the massively bright pink tassel is absolute perfection.

This necklace will be sent directly from Beaded by W so if you ask nicely...she just might send you something from her fall line, with debuts in the next day or two instead.

stripe - double - pink

(also in above photo)

I'm a total sucker for gold + pink (what...you couldn't tell?!) and can't get enough of this eco-friendly journal by Greenroom.

The cover looks and feels like leather, though it's somehow recycled fiber.

Tell me you love the paper's pink edges, as much as I do!

birthday giveaway

Paper straws. Obsessed.

Black and white stripe. Also obsessed.

Need I say more?!

birthday giveaway 9

You know back when you were collecting Garbage Pail Cards and stickers (please tell me this isn't dating me)? Well, I was the super nerdy one who had a paper napkin collection. Yes. I'm serious.

Well, it has since translated into a love of hosting and making a pretty table...and this pink ombre set is just right up my alley. I may or may not have bought an armload of them awhile back. As in all the store had in stock.

I know, I have a hoarding problem.

birthday giveaway 12

I posted a photo of this yummy lemonade on Instagram this week. I'd never had it before but the gorgeous packaging and the fact that it's Elderflower and Rose, totally hooked me.

It was an instant favorite!!

birthday giveaway 10

I say this phrase to myself all the time.

Oh Jesus that we would pray more and worry less!!

A few years ago, I bought a big canvas and painted the saying in beautiful bright gold.

It was a major diy fail...looked like an elementary aged kid painted it. Which would be cute, if my kids had made it! Oh well.

Instead, you get to enjoy this gorgeously calligraphed piece surrounded by reclaimed wood (from my same favorite store where the vintage forks came).

birthday giveaway 11

Though I typically love drinking from glass, sometimes carrying around a lidded plastic container just makes more sense.

But I have a hard time finding really cute ones that are BPA Free.

So when I happened on this one, I just had to bring it home (sorry I can't find it online)!

birthday giveaway 14

Who doesn't love a bold poppy colored bag?! This leather cross body purse from Stella & Dot even has fun lining!

birthday giveaway 15

When they came out with this collection, I bought everything they carried in the vibrant hue!!

More favorites are this and this!

birthday giveaway 16

I'm always adding to my silver collection and especially love platters and trays because you can use them for everything from holding office supplies to desserts! And don't tell my grandma, but I love when they're slightly tarnished looking.

I also adore unique gift tags for gift giving or even to use as place markers at dinner parties!

And really, who doesn't love gorgeous pencils. This collection rests in a small vintage white pitcher on my desk. They're from a favorite paper goods store here in town.

Love!!!

birthday giveway 17

Who of you know Ruth over at Gracelaced?? Her heart is even more beautiful than her paintings. Truly.

I've had the extreme pleasure of spending time with her on a couple occasions.

I'm so excited she's blessing you with one of my favorite of her prints.

An Evening to Nourish - June (table decor)

Last Thursday night was June's Evening to Nourish!

And ohhhhmygosh it was amazing.

nourish june 1

The theme (if you want to call it that) of the evening derived from finding this gorgeous wrapping paper over at Tiny Prints.

And...get THIS...it's editable.

I realize the paper is supposed to say something like "with love, the Anderson Family". Or "Happy Birthday" since after all, it is gift wrap.

But instead, it lended itself perfectly to displaying the name of our evening..."An Evening to Nourish" and repurpose it as a table runner.

nourish june 23

The paper is thick and glossy and I really think if it hadn't rained (actually poured + thunder stormed) at the end of our night, I'd have been able to use it as a table runner again another time.

nourish june 22

Once again, I lucked out in finding some great flowers in the Clearance section at our neighborhood grocery store.

Do you ever look there?? I find the best deals!

Using this technique, I bunched the flowers together into old soup cans that I've been saving.

nourish june

I didn't have enough silverware to set the table for all the ladies coming (I swear my kids are throwing them in the trash or something), so my sweet friend AnnMarie brought over hers to mix in.

I love that it all looks a little mismatched yet coordinates because it's like in color and style.

Just like my plates!

I'm collecting vintage floral china and have been frequenting antique markets, garage sales, and thrift stores looking for random one-offs. I have far from a collection, but I now have enough to mix in with my regular China.

My most recent find was this week at Goodwill (for 25 cents)!!

nourish june 11

Several months ago, Joss & Main showcased a great collection of wedding tableware and I couldn't resist getting a few things, like these laced (painted) tea lights and wooden place card holders.

nourish june 20

Aren't they so fun?! Though truthfully anyone with a branch and a saw could probably make them.

(If you do, tag me on the photo...I want to see!)

nourish june 2

I absolutely love pairing polkadots and stripes so I had so much fun playing around on Illustrator making our menus and place cards.

We had Street Tacos and Mexican chopped salad, and blood orange sorbet for dessert.

And yes...don't worry...I'll be sharing those recipes (and more!) later on in the week.
