Tips + Tricks to Get Your Schedule Under Control

People are always tell me how organized I must be since we have six kids and I have my fingers in all sorts of stuff.

Know what I whisper back? “Don’t say that in front of my husband or he’ll die laughing.”

JPEG image-D9B5ADA90020-1.jpeg

I’m not, you guys. I’m just not mega-organized in all aspects of my life. The biggest source of struggle for me?

Scheduling.

But guess what…I have some fantastic tips on how to get a grip on it all!

Our kids after-school sports/activities schedule is on a separate calendar on my phone but I needed something for the every-day.

You know, so I don’t schedule trips on days they don’t have school, or don’t double book a doctor appointment on the same day I have a speaking engagement, that sort of thing. I needed to get a better grasp on things because I was drowning in double-bookings and scheduling things poorly, which wasn’t allowing me to accomplish all I needed to do.

Maybe you’re the same.

Or perhaps it’s not work-stuff that’s bogging you down, but mom-hood in general (hand raised here!!). You know, things as simple as scheduling a get-together the night before your son’s huge science project was due (oops). Or maybe being excited your mother-in-law was coming to visit before realizing it was finals week for your oldest and they would be holed-up studying the whole time and not able to play.

A few months ago, my dear friend Lindsay Sherbondy (also known as Lindsay Letters) sent me a wall calendar unlike any I’ve ever had. A wall calendar? That’s it? That’s your amazing organizing tool?? (**yawn**) I’ve had one since high school.

No! No you haven’t!

This is different…and so is how Lindsay taught me to use it.

IMG_5958.jpg

But here’s the thing: it’s not just what we use…but how we use it!

First of all, let’s talk about how pretty it is. Everything Linds makes is like the prettiest thing you’ve ever seen. So there’s that. But you also have an opportunity to select all sorts of options so it fits perfectly in your space AND perfectly fits your needs.

  • weekly, monthly, yearly, quarterly, seasonal

  • kids schedule, kitchen (with foodie illustrations), traditional

  • calligraphy or typography

  • vertical or horizontal

  • wall-peels or framed (PS there are TONS of different framing and sizing options)

  • huge-sized, tiny-sized

  • big budget, small budget

Are you freaking out about all the options yet? I know…how do you choose, right?!

But here’s the great part: Unlike most calendars that are made of paper, this one is covered in plexiglas which means it basically lasts forever (there is also a wall-peel option, check that out too!).

After the month, quarter, year, or whatever, is over…you simply wipe it clean and start afresh!

Ok ready for some tips on how to use it to stay mega-organized??

tips:

I certainly like that dry erase and wet erase markers can be used for different purposes but what I LOVE is the ability to use more than just pens to help me remember various things. Because of the way my brain works, other materials such as washi tape, post-it notes, tags, etc easily pulls my eye toward exactly what needs to be done and highlighted… basically separating or classifying various projects and topics.

Want to understand better what I’m talking about?

Head to this quick little video and see what I mean!

What do you think? Was that helpful? I sure hope so…because it’s truly been invaluable for me! And if you’re wondering, my calendar is The Quarter Cal.

I don’t have a ton scheduled for the rest of September but I know there’s a lot of travel, etc coming up in October and November so I went ahead and started those months a little early to make sure I’m set up for success!

Also…

If you haven’t already fallen in love with Lindsay’s crazy-creativity (and her dry humor…she’s just so fun. Check out her IGstories)…then I’m so excited to have changed your life for the better.

(free printable) June calendar!

Are your kids out of school yet? Every morning mine are already asking me, "What's the plan? What are we doing today?" and "When are we going to the mountains? When are we headed to the zoo and hiking and doing our outdoor movies?"

Rather than allowing them to make my head spin with all their questions, always asking to see the calendar on my phone as well as my Anchored Press planner, I decided I'd print out a calendar to tack up on the bulletin board in our kitchen.

That way they can see exactly what days we have plans and what days they know they can laze around, ride bikes to the pool, and play with their neighborhood friends.

I thought I'd make it available to you, too!! Just in case your kids are big question-askers like mine are.

I'll commit to making a new one for July, August, and September, getting us through the summer months. And if y'all are liking having them, I can continue each month after that! Let me know if you want them to continue! Happy to oblige! ; )

YAY SUMMER!!!!

Take Joy,

Teresa

Hi, I'm Deana, founder and creator of Anchored Press Planner.

Well, truly our sweet Jesus is the official “Creative Director & Writer” of Anchored Press and He should get all of the glory for it.

I wanted to share with you though how He teaches us so much through the various Seasons we're in right at this very moment.

anchored press planner 1

I want to share it because I am currently witnessing how God has used my different seasons, good, bad & status quo; to fulfill a call He recently placed on my heart.

After a few years of owning an online stationery business that turned into a niche wine tag business, I woke up one day and felt very convicted that I was not using my God-given gifts to bring God glory.

Why would God pluck me out of my 10-year career in pharmaceuticals to keep me at home making wine tags? There had to be more in this plan of His.

So this past January I closed my Etsy shop for one month and spent time being still with God.

James 4:8 says, “Draw near to God and He will draw near to you”…Well, I am here to tell you that there is so much truth in that “truth.”

The closer I got to God and the more time I spent with Him, the clearer the call became. He put on my heart this intense desire to help get more women into His Word.

I saw the transformation in my own life when I took time out of my day, everyday, to spend time with God and I wanted this for other women.

At that same time, I started writing. I was never a big writer when it came to my quiet time with God. But, God gave me words, so I picked up a pencil.

By the end of my month “sabbatical” I had written over 100 devotions.

So the next question was, “God, what on earth do you want me to do with these?”

anchored press planner 5

At that same time, I looked over at my daily planner that was bursting at the seams. Over the years I have turned my planner into a place to keep my schedule, devotional, prayer journal, meal plan, goals and memory keeping.

All that I added into my tool to keep me organized, actually made it appear and feel as if I wasn’t organized at all.

And, that’s when it hit me! I realized that women are in their daily planner everyday, so what better place to put God’s Word?

The Anchored Press Planner was faithfully designed for all of you mothers out there looking for a way to stay organized, while also keeping you anchored in God’s Word.

God is so good and faithful! I just love how He uses the random-seeming seasons or times or experiences in our lives.

As we look back, they're not random at all...rather than being wasted, they're actually opportunities that God uses in preparation of future plans He has for us!

Below is some awesomeness that makes the Anchored Press Planner so unique...
